Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Tips

Microsoft Access Compatibility

If you share databases with other users in your organization, ensure that those users are all using Office Access 2007 before you convert the database to the Access 2007 file format. You cannot use the Access 2007 file format in earlier versions of Access once the database is converted.

Users can inherently open, edit and save Access 2003 databases with Access 2007.

You can also convert a database that was created by using Microsoft Office Access 2003, Access 2002, Access 2000, or Access 97 to the new Microsoft Office Access 2007 file format.

Microsoft Office Compatibility

Macros in Microsoft Office 2007 are not enabled by default in Office 2007. Some macros recorded in earlier versions of MS Office 2003 may not work after the upgrade.

Macros serve as modules of instructions that tell Office applications to automatically perform a particular process or set of processes. Macros can be extremely useful in performing a wide variety of tasks.

The same flexibility that makes macros such a useful tool also enables them to cause serious damage to a user's computer, if a macro contains poorly written or malicious code. As it currently stands, ODIN will not be able to guarantee that macros will work after the upgrade. The author of any macro will have to re-create the macro, in the event that it does not work in Office 2007. By default Microsoft disabled the macro feature for installations.
