We need volunteers to help care for our Garden Learning Center. In addition to demonstrating ecological landscaping, the garden will also have educational signs detailing beneficial soil conservation. For 2-3 hours a month, volunteers will weed, wipe down signs, and water as needed. This is a terrific way to get outside, learn how to maintain an eco-friendly garden and

HABITAT RESTORATION INTERN The Open Space Alliance of Santa Cruz (OSA) is a local non-profit organization that's been around for more than 10 years. Our mission statement (please see http://www.santacruzosa.org) is: The Open Space Alliance of Santa Cruz protects lands with significant natural and scenic qualities, including rare wildlife habitat, watershed protection features, sustainable agriculture use and wildlife linkages between protected lands. This is accomplished through education, outreach and broad-based participation in the local community and the national land trust network. We are looking for a (student) volunteer to assist with either a habitat restoration, parcel inventory or other relevant project. The expected time commitment would be 10-40 hours per month for a duration of 3 months or longer. I will be the initial point of contact. LANDSCAPE DESIGN INTERN Part time.

Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association (ALBA ). We are looking for some assistance in creating a landscape design for each office area, looking to utilize native and drought resistant landscaping plants to compliment our ecological management. We expect approximately 15-20 hours total for each farm site, depending on the experience of the intern. ALBA operates two training & demonstration farms in Monterey County . One is called the Triple M Ranch and is located just south of Watsonville , near the Elkhorn Slough. The second farm is called the Rural Development Center as is located 5 miles south of Salinas , in the heart of the Salinas Valley . Together our two farms serve 30-40 beginning organic farmers each year to learn the skills necessary to operate thriving organic farm businesses. Internship in Ecological Restoration

of the Watsonville wetlands with Watsonville Wetlands Watch: Ecological restoration is the process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed; techniques rely on an understanding of ecosystem functions and ecological design. Requirements: Interns are expected to dedicate 2-3 hours per week. Work activities will include: greenhouse propagation of Ca. native plants, planting of native plants in wetland and grassland restoration sites, and removal of non-native plants. Interns will also be asked to contribute to scientific investigation into the wetland ecosystem. Interns can expect to gain skills in: greenhouse propagation, composting and soil building, planting techniques, removal of non-native plants, an increased understanding of a wetland ecosystem, and experience in the creation of bio-filters and bio-swales. Community Service or service learning credit is available. People of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Interns should be able to conduct some physical work.
