Attachment theory

Attachment theory, created by psychologists John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, is the psycholgical belief that involves mental attachment or dependency upon another human (Crain, 2005, p. 44 and p. 54). This theory states that the earliest bonds between humans are formed and can be recognized as early as birth between infants and their caregivers and can be seen through the typical adolescent behavior and into adulthood. The attachment theory explains the human’s innate ability to psychologically bond to another human as means of survival and support while also considering influences of child rearing.
