Training guide for BIS instant online system to obtain Colorado State Criminal and Civil records

1.  BIS gives you the ability to run a very broad search by placing only two characters in the first name field and an exact name in the last name field. This combination searches all counties for Criminal and Civil records. Other search options are available for narrowing the number of records returned by utilizing the additional first name fields, by entering the date of birth, or by selecting a specific county or location to pull Criminal or Civil Records. The cost is the same no matter how you elect to pull data from the Courts. BIS do not limit the amount of searches returned and thousands can be returned on the case display.

2.  To Access your online system go to our website http://lookup.bisi.com

3.  Login using your username and password

4.  You will then be on our case order page

5.  Enter first full name or any derivatives of the first name (example: Robert, Bob, Rob)

Fewer characters entered will give you a broader search, two characters are mandatory. Enter up to 3 alias first names for free. Please Note: Name only searches may return a large amount of possible matches.

6.  If a middle initial is entered it will drastically narrow the search and return records that are only match first name, middle initial, and last name. This is not recommended.

7.  Enter full exact last name; it is not a wildcard. Always make sure last name is spelled correctly before continuing.

8.  If a DOB is entered, it will return records that match only by Name and Date of Birth. Please Note: Records without a Date of Birth will not be returned

9.  Select Settings
a. Data source should be set to "real-time” to access all current and historical records.

b. Archive records are searched for free and range from 1970 through 1996. If you receive a “converted” case filing on the real-time system, it is likely that the case can be found in Archive and provide greater case details.

c. NEW selecting Denver now allows you to search the Denver Lower court through BIS.

Please Note: There is a separate fee that will be charged based on your pricing agreement.

10.  County default is ALL COUNTIES; you can elect to search a specific county.

The fee for searching a single County or ALL counties is the same.

11.  Select Additional Search Options

a.  Case Type default should be "ALL"

b.  Criminal/ Civil field determines the type of records returned.

c. Criminal only returns; Criminal and Traffic cases

d. Civil only returns; Civil, Small Claims, Domestic cases

e. Both; Returns All Criminal and Civil cases

12.  For every “Submit” sent through the system a fee will be charged according to your agreement.

If a record has been created by the courts, a Court Index screen will appear with cases displayed.

13.  EXAMPLE OF CASE DISPLAY

14.  To view details click anywhere on the case link and a pop-up window will display case details. View any amount of cases as needed; there is no charge by the number of cases you view. Please Note: Ensure you have pop-ups enabled for this site.
