Gifted Education Program
HUNGARY CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL
Hungary Creek Middle School offers the following program opportunities for gifted and advanced students in grades 6 – 8.
Accelerated sections in English, mathematics, science, and social studies
High school credit courses in Art I, world language, keyboarding, mathematics, family and consumer sciences, and world studies
Full-time gifted resource teacher provides enrichment seminar units of study that emphasize 21st Century skills
Based on assessment of student interest, the following enrichment opportunities are offered to identified gifted students at Hungary Creek Middle School.Challenges & Contests

· Destination Imagination
· National Geography Bee
· 24 Game Challenge
· Spelling Bee / Clubs (Grades 6-8): Hungary Creek offers a variety of teacher sponsored clubs including Science, Community Service, and The Student Council Association.
Junior Great Books (Grade 6): Using shared inquiry, students analyze and interpret literature with emphasis on logical thought in speaking and writing. / Virginia Mathematics League Contest (Grades 6-7): Designed to stimulate interest and confidence in mathematics. Problems are designed to cover a range of mathematical knowledge for each grade level

Students will meet and study the Legal System.
Unit of Study (Grades 8): Students will meet for a nine weeks and explore “How we learn and think?” / Brian Training (Grade 6):

The full-time middle school gifted resource teacher also provides the following services at Hungary Creek Middle School. The resource teacher at Hungary Creek Middle School is Mrs. Jane Williams.
Teaches students in gifted and advanced classes as assigned by the principal
Obtains resource materials and shares with classroom teachers
Provides instructional assistance to classroom teachers of gifted and advanced students
Plans staff development opportunities in the area of gifted education and conducts workshops for all classroom teachers
Coordinates the school’s Gifted Identification/Placement Process
Serves as a resource to parents of gifted students
Disseminates information regarding enrichment opportunities for gifted students
