Head Professional
Job Purpose:
Coordinate the total golf operation, including the golf shop, outings and tournaments, and golf school.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Supervise teaching professionals, assistant professionals, and shop assistants. Responsible for implementation within the shop and club of course policies and procedures. Schedule staff members, such as cart attendant, cart/bag storage person, golf shop attendant, marshal, starter and range cart attendant, locker room attendants.
2. Supervise the operation of club cleaning and the storage of members' golf clubs.
3. Supervise the rental and use of golf carts.
4. Supervise the starting of play by golfers.
5. Track and verify guest, cart, club care, locker, and handicap fee charges.
6. Administer the operation of handicap system for men and women.
7. Enforce all club rules and regulations governing the use of the golf course.
8. Develop and administer tournament activity.
9. Maintain close working relationships with superintendent.
10. Assist in the marketing of new memberships, where applicable.
11. Monitor the daily operations and analyze the daily sales reports, weekly and monthly forecasts of the golf shop; establish monthly inventory goals; help develop purchasing policies and procedures.
12. Interview and make hiring recommendations for the golf staff.
13. Approve all weekly time/payroll sheets; purchase orders, invoices.
14. Keep current with the fashion trends of the golf apparel industry so as to conduct the buying of merchandise and be consistent with the high standards of the club.
15. Supervise daily, weekly, and monthly physical inventories of merchandise and the display of this merchandise (with golf shop buyer if applicable).
16. Assist in the formation and publishing of informational and promotional literature (to include golf packages) for the club.
17. Assist in the preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. Compile information from competition for comparison studies to afford the golf club its proper place in the market segment. With discretion, will work with director of golf to authorize outside play and reduced rates.
Education/Experience:
Two-year college degree, business related. - Required. (PGA Class A membership in good standing is equivalent).
Four-year degree - Preferred.
Five-year membership of the PGA with a minimum of five years experience at golf course - Required.
Business background in retail and marketing; human relations, public relations and good oral and written communications skills - Required.
Knowledge of accounting principles, and a good working knowledge of forecasting, budgeting, and compiling reports from a revenue and expense side - Required.
Skills in teaching the fundamentals of golf - Required.
Working knowledge of golf car repair, club fitting, club repair, and a strong tournament operations background - Required.
Valid driver's license - Required.
