HIV 101 Educator Internship Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Directly supervised by the Director of Programs, the HIV 101 Educator will provide an introduction to HIV/HCV/STIs and safer sex education for local high school students. Position requires attending scheduled Health Enhancement classes at local high schools during the week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Become very familiar with the current HIV 101 presentation

2. Assist with the development and delivery of new educational activities that are relevant to the program

3. Assist in coordinating with Health Enhancement teachers from every local high school

4. Work to facilitate meetings and establish relationships with local middle school teachers and administrators

5. Participate in on-going trainings as needed

6. Work with Director of Programs to strengthen the HIV+ Speaker’s Bureau

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Extensive knowledge of HIV/HCV/STIs

2. Experience presenting to large groups of people

3. Excellent verbal communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills

4. Knowledge of community resources and local referrals

5. Demonstrate ability to manage large groups of high school students

5. Demonstrate ability to work effectively and engage with youth of diverse races, socio-economic statuses, and sexual orientations

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

The OAA HIV 101 Educator will participate in in-office trainings as needed. The intern will also be responsible for continuing education in the office as time allows.

TIME COMMITMENT

This internship requires a minimum commitment of 1 year.
