instructions for submitting Abstracts

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Contributed abstracts are invited for General oral and poster sessions of the Anatomical Society.

Please complete the attached forms and provide author details, including email, and preference for a poster or oral communication. The organisers may request a change of preference, depending on programming constraints. Any such change will be notified as soon as possible after the abstract submission deadline.

The text of abstracts should reflect what will be presented, and authors should aim for clear simple summaries. The title should reflect the content of the abstract and, where relevant, should include the species of animal used. Names of authors should be on a separate line, followed by the affiliations in full. For example:

Stereological study of the effects of wheat germ oil on preventing adverse effects of para-n-nonylphenol on the testis structure in adult rats.

M.S. Mehranjani1, M. Ebrahimi2 A. Dezpholian3, A. Naderi1, M.H. Abnosi1 and S.N. Mousavi4.

1Department of Biological Science, Faculty of Science, University of Arak; 2Department of Reproductive Physiology, Qom University; 3Department of Histology and Embryology, Medical Science University of Gondishahpoor, Ahvaz,; 4Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Arak, Iran

The text of the abstract should be no more than 350 words. The text should state briefly, without subheadings or paragraphs, the purpose of the study (what question was asked and why), the methods used, the findings and their significance (please avoid such phrases as “the significance of the findings will be discussed”). It is essential when describing experiments using living animals that reference is made to any anaesthetic and surgical procedures involved, and when appropriate it is stated how animals were killed. The species used must be stated in the abstract title. Where abstracts refer to experiments on living human subjects they must include a statement that the experiments were performed with the understanding and consent of the subject. References should not be necessary, but where essential they should follow the example “... it has been proposed (Poole, J. Anat. 191, 1997) …”; do not include page numbers.

It will be assumed that all abstracts are also submitted for subsequent publication in the Journal of Anatomy. (If an abstract is not intended for publication this should be notified in writing at the time of submission). The peer review requirement of the Journal will be met by the discussion period at the end of each talk, or, in the case of posters, during the poster discussion session. In all cases the decision about acceptability for publication ultimately lies with the Editor of the Journal.

Abstracts should be submitted by e-mail to as an attached MICROSOFT WORD file using the attached form. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 16th November 2010.
