Speaking

I.  general evaluation

1. Good points

+ interesting topic: “the Asian Games” à relating to the sports which is the hobbies of many students.

+ there are many useful skills

Ex: reading part, guessing the meaning in the context or scanning for specific information.

Listening: comprehension question

Writing: describing

2.  Bad points

+ Activities are not interesting

Ex: speaking, task 1, just give the table of information and ask the students to make a dialogue but with a frameàit’s mechanical.

+ Not really interactive and creative

In many parts, students work individually.

Ex:

Speaking, task 2, just use one model of sentence to talk about the sport results of the Vietnamese athletes at 14th Asian games

Language focus, pronunciation or grammaràwork individually.

II.  Adaptation

Task 1: add

Aim: to encourage students to express their knowledge of The Asian Games.

To make the task more interesting

Procedure:

+ Teacher sticks a poster on the board including 2 question :

1.  What Asian countries have taken part in the Asian games?

2.  What sports have been introduced in the Asian Games?

+ Teacher asks students to work in group and answer the question above.

+ Teacher delivers each group a sheet of paper to write down

+ Teacher calls some groups to stick on the board.

Suggested answers:

Countries: China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Phillipines, Iran, Japan, South Korean….

Sports: diving, swimming, archery, bodybuilding, basket ball, chess, volley ball, tennis, golf, judo, base ball...

Task 2: replace

Aim: to make the task more interactive

To make the task more interesting

To help students to make Wh- question and answer.

Procedure: role-play

+teacher set the scene”

Supposing that you are a journalist and you have an interview with Ly Duc, an athlete of body building sport, who took part in the 14th Asian Games.”

+ In make a conversation between Ly Duc and the journalist with the cues in the handout

+ Teacher gives handouts

+ When time is up, ask some pairs to stand up and speak out their dialogue in front of the class.

Comments / The main problem is that the adapted activities are not linked well with the activities in the part. Therefore, the activity would take more time than required. The activity that replaces task 2, does not fit well into the framework of the existent task
