Greek God/Goddess Project

A Modern Interpretation – Due Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Now that you have completed the research on your Greek god, goddess, or hero, it’s time to put that knowledge into action! You know how the ancient Greeks viewed the gods, but how would they have been viewed today? How would people from the 21st century take these mythological figures and shape them to fit into our world?

Your task is to take the information that you have collected and select one project below:

- Create a product or advertisement for a product that incorporates your god into its marketing scheme (example: Apoll-Os breakfast cereal, or Aphrodite beauty cream).

OR

- Create a FAKEBOOK (pretend Facebook) account for your god.

If you are creating a product, it should incorporate:

· an empty box or plastic bottle, with a new or modified label that reflects the god and all of his or her attributes (symbols, powers, other gods they associate with, etc.) that you collected on your research worksheet.

· Empty cereal boxes work especially well for this project. Be thorough!

· Include as much information as you can on the box –

o what are the ingredients (crops blessed by Demeter, goats milk from Pan, etc.)?

o How is the product better than other products? Be specific!

If you choose the fake Facebook page:

· I can either give you paper copies to work with, or I can email the files to you so that you can use your computer to complete the project.

· The “Fakebook” pages should look like they were created by your god; what would their interests be? What would they be posting on their page? Who would they be “friends” with? Who would post messages on their page? Would other gods say nice things or not-so-nice things? What kind of photos would they post?

· If you create your page on the computer, it will need to be printed – I’ll need a hard copy to grade.

BRING A USB/FLASHDRIVE TO CLASS ON WEDNESDAY TO SAVE DOCUMENT! I CAN ALSO EMAIL YOU THE TEMPLATE.
