Materials: Power Point Presentation, LCD Projector, Handouts
TEKS: §119.62. Animal Science, High School. 1) Students will apply competencies related to resources, information, and systems. 2) The students will explain the animal anatomy and management of domesticated animals. 6) The students recognize management techniques.
Objectives:
The learner will identify the most common horse breeds with 95% accuracy.
The learner will correctly explain proper feeding techniques for horses.
The learner will correctly diagram the markings of horses.
The learner will identify the main parts of the horse with 90% accuracy.
The learner will label the most common colors of horses with 90% accuracy.
Modifications:
Time / Process / Activities3 min / Anticipatory / Ask the questions: Who owns a horse? Whose family own horses? Who has ever ridden a horse? Briefly introduce the teachers personal background with horses.
Objective / The students will fill out the handout provided with the power point presentation. The learner will identify breeds, colors, markings. The learner will know two common health issues, and how to care for a horse.
45 min / Input / Lecture with power point presentation. Allow for discussion over topics that seem of interest. Have students write down answers to the quiz and practice questions.
3 min / Modeling / Walk around the room to be sure that all students are filling out their hand out. Ask individual questions to insure they understand.
5 min / Questioning / During the quiz portion have the students write down their answers then ask individual students for their response.
45 min / Guided Practice / This is done with the power point presentation. The student will have a hand out of the presentation, as well as an answer sheet to be turned in at the end of class.
Independent
Practice / The student will be tested over the information provides. There is no formal independent practice, however looking over the material is highly recommended.
5 min / Closure / Ask the students what they learned from today’s lesson. Have them give back specific details, and pry for more information.
Assessment / The students will be assessed individually through the hand out with the practice questions. The students will be assessed through questioning throughout the class. The final assessment will be a written examination.
