GARBAGE DISPOSER INFORMATION
Your apartment is equipped with a garbage disposer unit in the kitchen sink for your convenience in disposing of most food waste.
Following the instructions detailed below will help PREVENT DISPOSER JAMS and related problems.
We ask that you notify us as soon as you ever have a serious problem with your disposer so that our maintenance crew can remedy the situation.
IF: A. Jams occur quite frequently (and no malfunction can be detected in the
equipment) or;
B. It becomes apparent to the maintenance staff that the equipment has been
misused; either intentionally or accidentally we reserve the right to charge
you for the repair.
With this in mind, we offer the following information for your benefit:
DO’S
ü DO grind food waste only with a string flow of COLD WATER.
ü DO dispose of SMALL AMOUNTS OF FATS and grease in your disposer. Be sure to have the disposer operating and use a strong flow of COLD WATER. If you have a large amount of fat and grease, we suggest you place it in a container, allow it to solidify, and then dispose of it in the trash.
ü DO FLUSH DISPOSER for self-cleaning. Allow disposer and cold water to run after grinding or after draining the sink of dish water. Some detergents are caustic – flushing will pass such material into the drain line without disposer injury.
ü DO occasionally run citrus fruit peel or a squeeze of lemon juice in the disposer to keep it SMELLING FRESH and TO CLEAN IT. Ice cubes with a bit of vinegar frozen in them will serve the same purpose.
ü DO use common sense in determining your disposer’s work load. The unit is geared to home, not industrial usage. If an OVERLOAD OCCURS, the unit stops:
A. Turn off the switch and the water;
B. Wait 3-5 minutes;
C. Push the red RESET BUTTON on the bottom of the unit;
D. If the unit does not operate after this procedure, please notify us.
