From drug target to drug development

UniGR workshop on Biomedicine

ULg’s Arlon Campus, Belgium

September 8th 2015

Welcome

Rectors and presidents of the six partner universities of the "University of the Greater Region - UniGR" (Universities of Kaiserslautern, Liège, Lorraine, Luxembourg, Trier and Saarland) decided in 2012 to continue to strengthen cooperation in the fields of research and training.

Three key areas whose BIOMEDICINE were selected in order to develop targeted cooperation. All universities see in this project the opportunity to pool their strengths and resources and thus play a leading role in the development of the Greater Region.

The domain Biomedicine brings together teachers and researchers from many life sciences and medicine disciplines, such as bioinformatics, systems biology, molecular and cellular biology, psychology, epigenetics or pharmacy. This creates interdisciplinary research networks, in which scientists can perform joint researches on diseases and treatment in the context of cross-border projects.

The Workshop Biomedicine "From drug development to target drug" is organized by the CIRM (Center for Interdisciplinary research on Medicines) from the University of Liege. It follows a series of workshops held since 2013 and 2014 in different Universities of UniGR and will be especially oriented around the development of drugs to expand and strengthen cooperation in this area. The day will focus on 6 oral presentations in the fields of Target Discovery, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, Nanomedicine, Drug Delivery and Toxicology but also a poster session that will allow young PhD students working in the UniGR in the field of drug development to present their results.

Finally, the day will end with a presentation by Mr. Jérôme Eeckhout (University of Liege, Belgium) who will present the EU Financial Opportunities for concrete collaboration projects that will born from this day and from this Workshop.

We hope to see many of you in Arlon next 8th september for the "From drug development to drug target" workshop.
