Forensic Biologist IV: NMS Labs

We are seeking a Forensic Biologist IV in our Criminalistics Lab. Requirements include a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Natural Science, along with 7-10 years of Forensic DNA lab-related experience (including course work). A Master’s degree or Ph.D. along with 3 years lab-related experience(including course work), as well as experience in court testimony, is also acceptable. Course work must include biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology (molecular genetics, recombinant DNA technology) or other subjects providing a basic understanding of the foundation of forensic DNA analysis. At least 5 years of accredited Forensic DNA laboratory experience is also required, and this includes the successful analysis of a range of samples typically encountered in forensic casework prior to independent casework analysis using DNA technology. ABC certification is preferred.

The Forensic Biologist IV will perform forensic serological testing, as well as isolation, amplification, and typing of DNA in forensic casework biological samples. Additional responsibilities include evidence processing, reviewing and reporting of test results, court testimony, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, method development and implementation, training of less experienced staff, and quality assurance and documentation of analytical processes under chain of custody and certifying agency regulations. Normal work hours are full-time, 8:00AM to 4:30PM, Monday through Friday.

The successful candidate will have working knowledge of the following techniques: Serology, DNA extraction, PCR, STRs, and Capillary Electrophoresis. Other job requisites include excellent communication skills, dependability and a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, ability to teach classes and workshops, and good computer skills including Microsoft Office.
