ONLINE SPORTS EVENT CALENDAR LAUNCHED BY HOOD RIVER CHAMBER
HOOD RIVER, OR— As the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Oregon, Hood River is known for everything from water sports kiteboarding, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, whitewater rafting, fishing, sailing, and kayaking, to land activities like biking, hiking, and running, to snow sports, horseback riding, school team sports, and so much more.
Now visitors and locals as well can easily find all the local sports and outdoor recreation events on the Hood River County Chamber of Commerce website at hoodriver.org. Sponsored by local sporting supply business Shortt Supply, this calendar allows visitors with sports in mind to quickly discover all the exciting sporting events happening in the area.
“This calendar was Brian Shortt’s idea,” said Kerry Cobb, Executive Director for the Chamber. “As we developed the Chamber’s new website and saw how many events started to show up on our regular calendar, it became evident that a sports-only calendar was going to be a great asset for visitors who wanted to get right to the sporting events without having to look through all the other non-sports options. So we went back to Brian’s idea and he and Karen were kind enough to sponsor the page so we could get the mechanics of it built.”
The calendar is open for use by anyone in the county who wishes to post their sporting event by using the simple online event entry form—from major worldwide events like the Roy Webster Cross-Channel Swim to the local football game. Users can search by type of sport and get a list of just those sporting events to pop up.
“Businesses are regularly asked to provide "donations or support" in one form or another to special events. This calendar is a way for the sport event organizers and promoters to offer advanced awareness to the business community. This is a great opportunity for both in many ways,” said Brian Shortt of Shortt Supply, sponsor of the new calendar.
The Hood River County Chamber supports economic and tourism development for the region and provides promotional programs to its 433 members. As a county-wide organization, it supports businesses, organizations, and governmental agencies in Cascade Locks, Hood River, Parkdale, Odell, Pine Grove, and Mount Hood.
