For commentaries on news pieces
and other outside material
Commentaries on news pieces and outside material should be written up as a .doc or .docx according to the following template, and should be limited to 500-1000 words.
Commentary Title
Title should be informative and accurately represent what the commentary will discuss.
One-Line Summary
One sentence capturing the main message of the article and the commentary’s East-West perspective.
Introduction
Succinctly introduce the subject matter of your commentary piece to your audience. You may also want to introduce alternative and integrative practices related to topic and/or major implications of the piece.
Body of Commentary
The main content of the commentary. Try to write in a casual, informational style. If the commentary is in response to an existing article or published writing elsewhere, provide clear source information within the body. E.g., “In a 2010 study in the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine, researchers found that…”
Conclusion
A summary and overview of the implications of the outside article, highlighting the main message of the commentary. Emphasize how this adds to the current state and future direction of IM.
References
· Bulleted list to any cited or related PDFs, papers, peer-reviewed journals.
· Commentaries should be written with as few (if any) references as possible.
Photo
· Photos for commentaries are optional.
Once complete, please submit your article to your contact at the Center for East-West Medicine or to Explore IM Editor, . It will be uploaded into Google docs, where appropriate topic editors and copyeditors will be invited to participate in your revisions. For this purpose, please supply us with your Google account information so that you will have access to your article throughout the editing process. If you do not have a Gmail account, information on how to set one up can be found at https://accounts.google.com/SignUp.
