FOODSERVICE CANTILEVER METAL STORAGE SYSTEM

Specifier Notes: This section covers E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. Spacemaker System foodservice cantilever metal storage system. The Spacemaker System complies with NSF International and USDA standards for food preparation installations. Consult E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. for assistance in editing this section for the specific application.

PART 1 GENERAL

1.4 SUBMITTALS

B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer’s product data, including list of components, quantities to be provided, and installation instructions.

C. Shop Drawings: Submit manufacturer’s shop drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details, indicating dimensions, tolerances, materials, components, fabrication, fasteners, hardware, finish, options, accessories, and layout of system.

D. Samples: Submit manufacturer’s samples:

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Firm specializing in manufacture of foodservice cantilever metal shelving systems with 25 years minimum successful experience.

B. Sole Source Responsibility: Shelving system components shall be products from a single manufacturer.

C. Storage system shall be approved by NSF International for installation in food preparation, processing, and storage facilities.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery and Acceptance Requirements: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer.

B. Storage and Handling Requirements:

1. Store and handle materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

2. Keep materials in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers and packaging until installation.

3. Store materials in clean, dry area indoors.

4. Do not store materials directly on floor.

5. Store materials on flat, level surface, raised above floor, with adequate support to prevent sagging.

6. Protect materials and finish during storage, handling, and installation to prevent damage.

1.7 WARRANTY

A. Warranty Period: 10 years for properly installed storage system to cover repair or replacement of defective or structurally failed components.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURER

2.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Foodservice Cantilever Metal Storage System: Design, fabricate, and install such that:

1. Shelves are cantilevered without front supports, providing completely open, full width, useable shelves.

2. Shelf lengths are provided to completely fit layout indicated on Drawings without voids, gaps, or wasted space.

3. Shelves may be positioned at any height above base bracket.

4. Systems with slots or holes that dictate shelf heights: Not acceptable.

5. Storage system shall be expandable using additional modular components.

6. Storage system can be dissembled and re-erected in different location or configuration.

Specifier Notes: Typical spacing of uprights and shelf length is 48 inches (1,219 mm). Bracket and load capacity is determined by shelf span and depth. Bracket length is the same as shelf depth. Refer to load tables in E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. product literature and edit the following paragraph to reflect project requirements.

2.3 STORAGE SHELVING SYSTEM

A. Provide complete, foodservice cantilever shelving system consisting of modular shelves, uprights, shelf brackets, clamp assemblies, fasteners, and other components and accessories that can be field assembled; Spacemaker System as manufactured by E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc.

B. Compliance: System shall comply with Fed Spec AA-S-1048, Kind I, Class 2, Type 7D.

C. Layout: Dimensions, number of tiers, location, spacing, and details shall be as indicated on Drawings and approved shop drawings.

Specifier Notes: Spacemaker Systems can be wall mounted, freestanding, floor-to-ceiling mounted, or a combination of mounting methods.

D. Mounting Method: Shelving shall be supported on cantilevered brackets attached to [wall mounted] [freestanding] [floor-to-ceiling] uprights.

Specifier Notes: Eleven standard types of shelving are provided for E-Z Shelving System. They are listed below along with the type of uprights and shelf brackets typically used. Other types of shelving and finishes, such as chrome, are available as custom orders. Contact E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. for availability of non-standard components and finishes and assistance in specifying custom products.

EZGS - Galvanized steel shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.

NSGS - Galvanized steel NSF-certified shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.

EZGSL - Galvanized steel louvered shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.

NSGSL - Galvanized steel NSF-certified louvered shelves and zinc-plated uprights and brackets.

EZAS - Sheet aluminum shelves and shelf brackets, extruded aluminum uprights, and zinc-plated steel foot brackets.

NSAS - Sheet aluminum NSF-certified shelves and shelf brackets, extruded aluminum uprights, and zinc-plated steel foot brackets.

EZSS - Stainless steel shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSSS - Stainless steel NSF-certified shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSWS - Stainless steel NSF-certified wire shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSWZ - Zinc-plated NSF-certified wire shelves, uprights, and brackets.

NSWE - Zinc-plated NSF-certified wire shelves with powder paint coating and zinc-plated uprights and brackets. As an option, powder paint coated uprights and brackets can be provided. Standard paint colors for wire shelves are green, blue green, and gray. Standard paint color for uprights and brackets is gray.

2.4 SOLID AND LOUVERED SHELVES

Specifier Notes: Except for wire shelves, standard shelf lengths are 36, 48, and 60 inches (914, 1219, and 1,524 mm). Standard shelf depths range from 6 to 36 inches (152 to 914 mm) in 2-inch (51-mm) increments. Custom sizes are also available, if of sufficient number, by contacting E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc. Shelf size can be specified below for each selected shelf type. However, if several different sizes are required, it is preferable to indicate dimensions on Drawings or in a Shelving Schedule included in Part 3 of this specification section.

Select the appropriate shelf types from the following. If more than one type is required, indicate with letter designation. Use same type designations on Drawings.

Include this paragraph for NSGS solid surface, galvanized steel shelves.

A. Type [A]: Solid surface, galvanized steel shelves; NSGS as manufactured by E-Z Shelving Systems, Inc.

1. Material: [16 gauge] [1.6 mm] galvanized steel sheet complying with ASTM A653 with G-90 coating of [1-1/4 oz per sq ft] [33 g/m2].

2. Profile: Form shelf from single sheet with front edge bent down and back edge bent up to provide rigidity. Provide front and back flanges with return so that cut edges are not exposed. Shelves shall have no unsanitary hems, crevices, or folds.

3. To comply with NSF/ANSI 2, bottom front flange shall have a 45-degree bend to aid cleaning and minimize food debris collection.

4. Pre-punch shelves for attachment to brackets. Provide with screws and wingnuts for attachment.

2.5 COUNTERTOPS

Specifier Notes: Solid surface shelves 24 to 36 inches (610 to 914 mm) deep can be used as countertops or work surfaces when mounted on special countertop-type brackets. As a custom order, countertops greater than 36 inches (914 mm) can be provided. In applications such as kitchens, cantilevered countertops can be used with shelving above and below. Include this article if countertops are required.

A. Where [indicated on Drawings] [scheduled in Part 3], provide countertops with countertop brackets.

B. Material: Match material and finish of specified solid surface shelves.
