WELCOME BACK TO HONORÉ MERCIER

ACTIVITY DAY MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th, 2014

We are happy to greet our new and returning students for the 2014-2015 academic year. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a successful school year. We will launch our new year with Dynamix Team Games, and a corn roast & Freezies on Monday, September 8th. The students are expected to be dressed in their physical education uniform and running shoes. Thank you to all our Home & School Volunteer parents for helping to get the year off to a great start!

SCHOOL PHOTOS

Our school photos will take place on October 1st & 2nd. Please note that only students who have the media consent form for photos will be allowed to be photographed. There will be no exceptions. A letter/form will also be sent home for parents to request a sibling photo. Please note that only requests received by the deadline will be respected. Deadline is: September 24th to return this form to the school. School uniform is mandatory for the school photos.

SCHOOL LUNCH DELIVERIES

Students should come to school every day with a healthy and nut free lunch that includes a beverage and snack. Our hot meal provider is Le Doral (Optional Service). Please understand that we will no longer be accepting daily deliveries from parents (this means parents delivering lunches to the office). This is very disruptive to the school routine and that of your child.

If your child forgets their lunch we will provide a lunch for them and a fee will be charged.

PARENT GENERAL ASSEMBLY (GOVERNING BOARD ELECTIONS)

On Wednesday, September 24th, we will be holding our annual general parent assembly.

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location: School Gym

Governing Board Meeting to follow at 7:30 p.m. (Staff Room)

Parent representatives will be elected to serve on the Governing Board. Also, the parent representative for the Region 1 Parent Committee will be selected. All parents are urged to attend the assembly. Our Governing Board meets on an average of once a month. Our first meeting will take place directly after the General Assembly.

DROP OFF ZONE/NO PARKING ZONE/NO STOPPING ZONES(S) REMINDER

Please note that the section of the street on Honfleur Street that runs all along the north side of the school yard is designated as a drop off zone during morning arrival times. It is unfair and illegal for parents to park there (even for a short period of time). Parking in the drop off zone forces a slowdown in traffic and forces other parents to drop off their child in the middle of the street. Please stop and drop off your child but do not park there. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Our children’s safety is our 1st priority.

NORTH GATE & EAST GATE /STUDENT DISMISSAL (REMINDER)

In order for all our students to be in a safe and secure environment, please note the rules regarding student drop off and pick up:

ü No parents in the schoolyard at any time.

ü North Gate: (Honfleur Street) parents picking up their child must wait at the north gate. Please do not block the gate entrance. The students need to have free access.

ü East Gate: (Nantes Street) the only students that are to exit from the East gate are the students who are boarding the busses at the end of the day. This is necessary to alleviate the congested sidewalk traffic and to ensure the safe boarding of all the students in a timely manner. Please do not pick up your child at this gate. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. We are now requesting that all kindergarten parents remain outside the school yard gates. Thank you.

CHANGE OF MORNING LATE ENTRANCE

It is important for children to learn the value of being punctual. Honoré Mercier is an early

start school where daycare service is available from 7:00 a.m. The school bell rings at

7:42 a.m. The 2nd bell rings at 7:50 a.m. All grades 1-6 students must enter the school

by the school yard doors. No students will be admitted via the front door. As of Thursday,

September 4th, all lates must enter by the daycare door via the schoolyard where the office

staff will administer a late slip. Note: Parents may not enter the school yard. After 3 lates,

the student will receive a Time-Out. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

For safety reasons, no parents are to enter the school yard. Parents picking up their child must wait by the North Gate. The bus students exit by the East Gate. Once boarded, no student will be allowed to be removed from the bus by any adult other than a staff member. Please do not change your child’s routine without written notification. Calling at the last minute (after noon on the day of) is not only disruptive, but we cannot guarantee that your child will receive the correct message in a timely manner. Please help us avoid a dangerous situation by placing in writing any change made to your child’s daily routine.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITES

After School Activities will begin shortly. This year the activities will be offered by Enfants & Compagnie, Dynamix and Angelo Di Bello (Karate on Wednesdays). Please return all registration forms to the office. Parents picking up their children (non-daycare) are asked to wait outside the main school entrance after all activities. The activity monitor will bring the students directly to the main entrance.

CROSS COUNTRY PRACTICE AND GMAA EVENT

Our grades 5 & 6 students are practicing after school and are training hard for the GMAA Cross Country Run will take place on Thursday, October 2nd.
