First of all go to www.facebook.com to open an account.

Enter you details in the sign up boxes and then click the green sign up button.

I already had a hotmail account so used this as my email address which links to facebook. I’m not sure if any email account would do.

Then I had to import friends using my hotmail account by pressing the imports friends button, these were people that were already on facebook. These could then be edited so that I could include the people I wanted by ticking the boxes by each photo.

I was then presented with another list of people from my hotmail account who are not on facebook but I could add them as friends as well if a wanted to.

Then some other people I may know popped up and they could be added as friends or ignored. They were linked to people I have already agreed to have as friends. I then had the option to search other email sites for friends that were listed in front of me.

The next option was to fill out school and employer information so that people could find me, or the option to skip that information could be taken.

Then facebook came up with other random people some of which are known and some are connected by someone else I suppose, and you can choose to befriend these people or not.

The next step is to add your photo for your profile, or skip it.

Generally the screen is easy to use and straight forward. You can go around just clicking on various titles and adding useful bits of information.

I updated my profile next and added personal information that was relevant to my children’s book club idea.

If you go into ‘wall’ this is where the most recent things you have changed or added goes, so other people would go into here to find out up to date information.

If you go into ‘info’ there is a section for arts and entertainment where the books that I am sharing can be added and then these can be commented on by others. I can also chat about these on my ‘wall’ and photos can be added by going into ‘photos’. In my case this is where I would post photos of the books I wanted to share. All of this very straight forward and easy to use.

I have a added below an example of the screen you will see when signing up to facebook but think the instructions are very clear so as not to need a picture of every single instruction.
