Book Extension Activities:
Language/Literacy Extensions:
· Alice tries to use some magic words to get her dog to float. What are your magic words, if you don’t have some, then make them up. Try to make them rhyming words.
· Some of the things that Alice says in the book are not exactly correct. Discuss with the class how the book is written from her perspective and how this is different from reality.
· For younger audiences, discuss and explain the ideas of the words permanent and temporary. Talk about things that could be described as permanent and temporary.
Art/Language Arts:
· Have the children make a magic wand and/or crown and use them for play-acting.
· Have the children make a pair of fairy wings (or dragon wings for boys).
Writing Extensions:
· Ask the children to draw and/or write about what they would change if they had a magic wand.
· Write about some of the classes you think a fairy has to take at fairy school. What would be your favorite subject?
Dramatic Play Extensions:
· Encourage the children to make believe they have special powers. What would they do? What would they change? Would they have a special costume? Have them act out what they would do if they had the power to change things.
