Today’s Lesson Objectives:
Students will be able to
· comprehend certain main ideas and universal themes;
· engage in a close reading of selected text from Lord of the Flies(LOF), in order to ask questions and to clarify understanding.
· learn, understand, and apply new vocabulary to aid in better understanding of the text.
Activities:
1. Complete reading comprehension warmup #33.
2. Imagine that your English class is stranded on an island. What would you do? First, break into your reading groups and determine the best structure in order to survive, or more importantly…live:
Government and rules (if any) Flag, slogan and anthem
Map and transportation Occupations
Recreation and entertainment Educational system
Language
3. Continue selection of LOF vocabulary words. Using a dictionary and/or thesaurus, define the word, its synonyms and antonym, part(s) of speech, and use in sentence. Explain this word and its proper usage to rest of class – you get to be the teacher!
Homework/Upcoming Due Dates:
· Quiz on Chapters 4-6 from Lord of the Flies is this Wed,, 11/6.
· Culminating project for Lord of the Flies is due Nov. 19.
· Please note that it is your responsibility to come in before/after school to make up any reading you’ve missed during an excused absence!
