Ferguson Endowment for Faculty Development
This endowment was created in the fall of 2014 from a generous gift from Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Carolyn Ferguson in support of A-B Tech faculty development.
Conrad Family Scholarship
Established by the Conrad Family, founders of A-B Emblem, these scholarships are for A.A.S. students for all costs related to the 2nd year of their program. Preference is given to students in northern Buncombe county, Madison and Yancey.
Fred Anderson Automotive Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2012. It provides financial support to students enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at A-B Tech.
Deltec Homes Endowed ScholarshipThis endowment was established in 2007. It is awarded to students enrolled in the Construction Management program. The company that eventually became Deltec Homes was founded by Clyde Kinser in 1955 as Kinser Home Insulation of Asheville. Today, Deltec specializes in primary family residences.
William and Dorothy Tugman Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2004, in honor of William and Dorothy Tugman. It is awarded to students enrolled in the Construction Management Program. Preference is given to students who have completed the GED program and minority students (women, Latinos, African-American).
ArvinMeritor, Electrical, Electronics, and Machining Scholarship
This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to deserving students in the Electrical/Electronics Technology and/or Machining Technology programs.
Engineering and Applied Science Scholarship
This scholarship is provided to students enrolled in any Engineering and Applied Science program.
Joseph Dave Engineering Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Joseph Dave (founder of Dave Steel Company – January 7, 1929) by his son, Jerry Dave. It is awarded to students enrolled in any Engineering and Applied Technology program. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Civil Engineering Technology program. Dave Steel Company is a structural steel fabrication company with the main office located in Asheville, NC.
Marie Love Cochrane Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship provides financial assistance to second-year students pursuing a curriculum program with a concentration in math or Mechanical, Electronic, Computer Engineering Associate of Applied Science programs.
NC Association of Electrical Contractors Scholarship
This scholarship is provided to deserving students enrolled in the Electrical/Electronics program at A-B Tech.
Padgett & Freeman Architects CAD Technology Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2013. The scholarship is available to students enrolled in the Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) Technology program.
Pete Palmeri Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2010 in memory of Pete Palmeri, by his son, Dr. Russ Palmeri (A-B Tech Biology instructor). Pete was an HVAC technician, electrician and business owner. This scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a degree in HVAC or Electrical/Electronics Technology.
Pride in Technical Education Scholarship
This scholarship is provided to first-year students, ages 18 to 28 years of age, enrolled in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Systems Technology, and Electrical/Electronics Technology.
Progress Energy Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship will be provided for the student pursuing an Associate Degree in Math, Science, or Engineering.
Richard and Jean Benfield Scholarship
Established in 2012 by Richard and Jean Benfield, this scholarship is provided for students in any Engineering and Applied Technology program. Richard is retired from business; Jean was born and raised in Buncombe County and author of the book Mountain Born. The Benfields come from families of carpenters, manufacturers, and machinists. The scholarship was established to help students enter the Engineering and Applied Technology programs and graduate with satisfying, practical skills.
The Frances N. Johnson Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Frances N. Johnson, former A-B Tech Registrar. This scholarship is available to students who are interested in pursuing a degree in Engineering or vocational studies.

Vadim Bora Visual Art Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2011 by the staff of the A-B Tech Art Department. It is awarded to students enrolled in the Associate of Fine Arts Degree program with a concentration in Art or the Associate of Arts Education Pre-Major.
College Bridge Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a first year student in fall semester andrenewable to second year recipient who has completed the A-B Tech GED program. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support in helping students transition from the GED program into a two-year curriculum program.
Altrusa International of Asheville ScholarshipThis scholarship was established by members of the Altrusa International of Asheville Association. It is awarded to second year females enrolled in a curriculum program. Altrusa International, Inc. is a global volunteer organization whose purpose is to promote better communities through service.
GEM Fund, American Association of University Women, Asheville Branch Scholarship
The GEM Fund (Gaining Educational Momentum) was established by members of the Asheville branch of the American Association of University Women. It is awarded to second year female students in good academic standing in the college transfer program.
The Asheville branch of AAUW traces its history from 1915 when sixteen local women college graduates organized what would locally become AAUW Asheville. Its work in Asheville has been ongoing and influential in the community, nation, and world, assisting women through such related projects as refugee relief and improvement of public schools. AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
Never Too Old for School Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Tom and Nancy Maher. It is available to non-traditional female students 30 years of age or older.
Roberta Manley Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Kay Manley, in memory of her mother Roberta Manley. This scholarship is open to all female students aged 40 years of age or older with life experiences and barriers to obtaining an education.
The Womansong New Start Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2009 by members of Womansong of Asheville, Inc, and Asheville’s largest and oldest women’s chorus. This scholarship is awarded to female students aged 25 and over. Since 1988, Womansong has helped women in transition make a new start in their lives.

Lavender Fund Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2008 by an anonymous donor whose purpose was to provide an opportunity for single parents to succeed in achieving their educational goals. It is awarded to single parents pursuing a two-year degree, certificate program or diploma. This program also connects students to resources that can help assist any need.
100 Men and Women Minority ScholarshipThis scholarship was established in 2012 by Samuel Abdul-Allah and many community volunteers who wanted to provide educational opportunities for African-American students enrolled in any curriculum program.
Asheville Latin Americans for Advancement Society Merit Scholarship
Established in 2012 by members of the Asheville Latin Americans For Advancement Society (ALAS), this scholarship is awarded to Latino residents of Western North Carolina paying out-of-state tuition at A-B Tech.
AT&T-North Carolina Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2009. It is awarded to Veteran students who have been honorably discharged enrolled in any curriculum program.
Lacy T. Haith and James V. Miller Endowed ScholarshipThis endowment was established in memory of two African-American pioneers, Lacy T. Haith (Educator) and James V. Miller (Master Mason). It is awarded to deserving African-American students enrolled in any curriculum program. Mr. Haith came to Asheville to teach in 1937. He taught carpentry and other vocational skills at Stephens-Lee High School. He also taught his students the value of a good education. Mr. Miller is noted for constructing many of Asheville’s graceful churches, public buildings, and homes that remain today. He worked for some of the top contractors before starting his company, Miller & Sons Construction, specializing in churches and commercial buildings. Both Haith and Miller were very influential figures in the African-American community.
Lead the Way Scholarship for African American Men
This scholarship was created by Dr. Rock Doddridge. It is available to African- American males enrolled in any curriculum program, while also fulfilling commitments to family, work and/or community.
Osborne M. Hart Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Osborne M. Hart. It is awarded to African-American students who have been accepted into a curriculum program at A-B Tech and who are enrolled as full-time students. Osborne Hart was a native of Asheville, President of Hart Funeral Services and a devoted community leader. A retired Lt. Colonel, he was also a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
Shapiro-Green Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Hal and Clare Shapiro. It is awarded to African-American and Latino students enrolled in any curriculum program. Preference is given to Asheville High School graduates.
Owen Tilson Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship offered to Madison County residents only who are enrolled in a curriculum program.
Rotary Club of Madison County - Irv Washington Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 2013 in memory of Irv Washington a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Madison County. It is provided to Madison County Residents.
Preference will be given to first-year students who have overcome adversity, financial, academic or otherwise to successfully complete high school.
Hutchinson/Candler Lions Club Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Candler Lions Club, a local civic organization dedicated to helping the community and those in need.
Jessie Copp Kramer/Hominy Valley Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of a respected educator, Jessie Copp Kramer, who taught in schools in Hominy Valley for many years. She also influenced many generations of young people in the community and like A-B Tech helped students realize their dreams.
Hamilton Gregory Scholarship
Hamilton Gregory, A-B Tech faculty member, is the author of “Public Speaking for College and Career”. This textbook has been successfully used in the Communication classes at the College.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a member in good standing with the Alpha Upsilon Eta chapter of the national honorary society of Phi Theta Kappa. Advisors may be contacted regarding the specific criteria for eligibility.

Capt. Jeff Bowen ScholarshipThis scholarship was established in memory of Capt. Jeff Bowen, a 13-year veteran of the Asheville Fire Department, who gave his life in the service of others while searching for victims in a local building fire in 2011. This scholarship is awarded to students who are volunteers and/or active firefighters enrolled in the Fire Protection Technology program.
Elizabeth G. Baker Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family of Mrs. Elizabeth G. Baker in 2014, this scholarship honors the life of an outstanding Madison County community member. The scholarship is offered to Madison County residents enrolled in the CNA curriculum.
David and Helen Edwards Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2013 by the children, family and friends of David and Helen Edwards. It is awarded to students enrolled in any Emergency Services program (i.e. Criminal Justice Technology, Emergency Medical Science and Fire Protection Technology).
Johnathan Giardina Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2004 by Nick and Deborah Giardina. It was established in memory of their son Johnathan Giardina (1970-2003), a former A-B Tech student enrolled in the Emergency Management Science (EMS) program. It is awarded to two students enrolled in the Emergency Management Science (EMS) program (one first year EMS student and renewable to a second year student). Johnathan started his studies at A-B Tech in 1999. He was also a member of the Buncombe County Rescue Squad, where he served as captain of the EMS division.
Sgt. Jeffrey Hewitt Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2006 by friends and family of Sgt. Jeffrey Hewitt in his memory. It is awarded to students enrolled in the Criminal Justice Technology, Emergency Medical Science (EMS) or Fire Protection Technology programs. Sgt. Hewitt served with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office for 11 years. He was shot and killed in the line of duty while serving papers at a local residence.
Fire Chief John E. Bishop and Rescue Chief Harry H. Hinman Scholarship
This honorary scholarship is awarded to our Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Science students.
Mary Hay Gwynn Endowed Scholarship
This endowment was established in memory of Mary Hay Gwynn in 2002. It is awarded to a current or past Human Resource Development (HRD) student who wishes to pursue additional skills training. Mary Hay Gwynn worked at A-B Tech Community College for 16 years as an educator and administrator. She served as Director of the Human Resources Development Program from 1991 to 2001.

This scholarship is awarded to a first year student in fall semester andrenewable to second year recipient who has completed the A-B Tech GED program. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support in helping students transition from the GED program into a two-year curriculum program.
Theresa Webb Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in any of the competitive Allied Health Programs, EMS or Fire Protection.
