Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory

The Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory of the Southern Research Station anticipates hiring several Biological Science Technicians for the summer. The duty station will be located at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory in Otto, NC. The Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory has been in continuous operation since 1934 and the research program spans the continuum of basic to applied science. Coweeta is a Long-Term Ecological Research Site and works cooperatively with several universities, National Forests, and local, state, and other federal agencies.
Positions will involve field and lab work on a wide variety of projects including, but not limited to: forest structure and age-related effects on water quantity; southern Appalachian forest carbon, nutrient, and water budgets and cycling; and riparian forest restoration. Position duties may include forest hydrological sampling, soil sampling, monitoring gas exchange on plant tissues and soils, plant inventory, and some data analysis. Some portion of data collected and/or analyzed could be used to fulfill university intern requirements. The rate of pay for the position is a GS-03 (approximately $11.95/hr). A limited amount of housing is available on site for approximately $125/month.
