E-Commerce Manager

Lee, K. and Mirchandani, D. “Analyzing the Dynamics of Skill Sets for the U.S. Information Systems Workforce Using Latent Growth Curve Modeling,” SIGMIS-CPR, May 28- 30, 2009, pp 113- 120.

The adoption of the Wireless Internet has clearly brought a new requirement, E-Business or E-Commerce, to IT professionals. There is an enterprise-wide business understanding of the organization. While “industry-wide knowledge” indicates the understanding of a specific industry, such as banking and health care, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) refers to the understanding of how the organization does its business and interacts with its inside and outside partners, such as suppliers and customers. The ERP perspective is able to encompass a wide range of IT professionals such as programmers, systems analysts, or web site designers from another field (mathematics, management, arts, and others).

Based on the results, the IT/ IS skill sets seem to experience the flat growth in expected demand for existing skills and steep growth in the expected demand for new skills sets. For example, organizations still wish to maintain ERP applications and office automation. The organizations also need computer network management on site since data communication is vital for all types of business applications. In addition, security, mobile commerce, and wireless communication skills are newly required due to current business environments, which highlight real time ubiquitous communications.
