DRYER VENT CLEANING BUSINESS GUIDE

Congratulations!!! You have taken the first step to owning your own debt free business. Let’s get started right away. When I started I was desperate to make money. I had been laid off in 2006 and a friend had told me about a job he did for an apartment complex. Now he wasn’t running a dryer vent cleaning business, but he saw a need and provided a service. This service he provided made $2000 in a days work cleaning their dryer vents. Interested I asked him how he cleaned them. After he explained how, I said, “That’s too easy, and they paid you that much!!” I then researched how to begin.

The Cleaning Process

There are many ways to complete a dryer vent cleaning using brushes etc. The technique I use allows us never to enter the unit. We do all the cleaning from the outside. Accessing the dryer vent cap we use high pressured air and a special blower nozzle. Cleaning a 50-80 ft. dryer vent run is a synch. The air forces the nozzle from the outside of the building all the way to the back of the dryer. It can navigate 90 degree turns and all. With the 150 psi it’s more than enough power to blow any lint buildup, birds nest, bees nest, out of the vent thus cleaning the vent.

The Income Potential (my beginning)

Think about all of the homes/ apartments/ Condos in the United States. There are millions, and almost all of them have a dryer. The cleaning of a dryer is needed on an annual basis. There are only a few competitors in this market and most don’t focus on just dryer vent cleaning but incorporate HVAC cleaning as well. With the increase in publicity of dryer fires occurring, we can use this fear as leverage in this business opportunity. Most apartment owners know their tenants are not taking care of their dryers. Most standard homeowners have never cleaned their dryer vents. You can charge anywhere from $25-$125/unit depending on your area and if you want to offer a bulk rate discount. The first Job I landed was a 111 unit complex. Being new to the business I wanted work so I offered the cleaning for $25/unit with the condition this complex contracted with me for 5 years. They took the offer because my competitors were charging $120/unit for a one time cleaning. Now I know you're saying wow that was a huge discount you offered. But the secret is, I now had guaranteed work for the next five years. Also the cleaning of 111 units took me one Saturday, helped me pay for all my equipment, I had $1500 left over, and best of all I was now operating a debt free business.
