Directors of Health Promotion Equity

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this letter of recommendation for Long Island University student Shantel Brown. I have come to know her through my role as the chaplain at the Brooklyn Campus of this university. She is applying for an internship from your organization. I would like to recommend her for three reasons.

The first is that she is a good and hardworking student. She is currently a second year grad student and has declared her major as Public Health and when she graduates in May of 2015 she expects to work as a health professional. She has a very respectful 3.75 GPA and I expect that she will continue on that level or improve as many grad students do. She has interned with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in the Disease prevention Division.

The second reason is that outside the classroom she has displayed the good qualities of effective time management, willingness to serve others, and the completion of her assigned duties at work.

As far as time management is concerned she not only carries a full time academic schedule but she also is involved in various clubs and organizations on the campus. She is an active member of the Caribbean Students Movement, Helping Hands, the Public Health Club, and the Newman Club (which is for catholic students on campus). In all four campus groups she is a very active member and one which makes the groups better.

All four campus groups are known for their service projects to others. They serve people as close as the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and as far away as Haiti and Tanzania. Shantel Brown has been very helpful to many people at home and abroad.

She had been the manager of the student lounge on campus. As manager she has many diverse duties such as planning events, scheduling staff, preparing programs, ordering supplies and handling the

money. She has always received positive feedback from her supervisor who is the Associate Director of Student Life.

The third reason I would recommend her is because of the kind of person she is. From the first time I met her she has always been respectful, kind, and positive. She demonstrates a willingness to learn, to listen, and to help. When many other young people her age look to be handed things in a kind of sense of entitlement, Shantel is different. She seeks to understand where she is, where she wants to go, and correctly assess how to get there. I have enjoyed working with her the past few years here at LIU. If you could offer her an internship I am sure you offer would be well deserved by Shantel Brown.

I end this letter by expressing my appreciation for reading it and if you need any more information from me you can write at the above address or call 917-757-8862 or email me at .

Sincerely,

Rev. Charles P. Keeney,

Chaplain
