No Differentiation Applying Differentiation Strategies

“I differentiate my instruction, on Monday I have a regular lesson. On Tuesday, do some problem solving. On Wednesday, I do a regular lesson and work in small groups with students that are struggling. On Thursday, we review for the quiz on Friday. On Friday, we have a quiz, and then the students get to select the Math games that they want to play.”

“Why do we have to do this ‘new’ kind of teaching anyway? I mean, I know that research says that it is better for the kids, but we did not learn this way and we turned out just fine.”

“Jackie can’t do the assignment. She just does not have the Mathematical language yet. She knows how to do the assignment [inscribing a circle with various polygons] and can even show others how to do it, but the assignment was to describe how you went about creating other geometric shapes in your circle. Intuitively, she knows, but can’t talk about the patterns. Could she focus on naming the polygons and the attributes of the circle, the diameter, the radius, a chord, etc.? I will team her up with, Ana, who can describe the patterns and they could present the attributes of a circle and show some patterns.”
