Department: UCM’s Back Porch Thrift Store

Supervisor: Back Porch Manager

Status: Back Porch Cashier/Sales Associate Volunteer/Intern

Summary: Under the overall supervision of the Executive Director of UCM, with immediate supervision of a Back Porch Manager and Key Associates.

Principal Functions:

· Interact with customer’s clients and donors ensuring that their needs are anticipated and met. This includes maintaining the store's customer service areas and referring problem situations to store management on a timely basis.

· As cashier, ring up sales, calculate any applicable discounts, receive payments and make change accurately. Balance drawer at end of shift.

· Be familiar with the current sales and merchandise that is present in the store at all times. This includes specific items in stock as well as being knowledgeable in any area where expertise will be beneficial to the store.

· Sort, hang, tag and price donations according to store procedures and standards.

· Stock processed merchandise onto the sales floor according to classifications and store standards.

· Maintain store housekeeping standards throughout the sales floor.

· If qualified, perform other duties, as assigned.

· When necessary, assist with incoming phone calls.

· Answering customer’s questions and needs or promptly directing them to the proper individuals that can do so.

· Maintain store policies, procedures and standards at all times.

· Notify supervisor when absent or going to be tardy.

· Ability to work cooperatively with staff and other volunteers.

· Ability to maintain professional relationships with clients, children and families and other agency representatives.

· Quality of work. This includes consistent exercise of promptness, accuracy and sound judgment, meeting required outcomes and the ability to perform all aspects of the job description.

· Dedication. This includes the desire, determination and ability to provide comprehensive services to customers.

Qualification/Experience:

· Work related experience in a retail environment.

· Dependable and able to work flexible hours which will include holidays, evening and weekend hours.

· Good oral and written communication skills.

· Must have a clear Virginia Criminal History Record for not less than five years with respect to crimes related to property or money convictions.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:

Physical expectations: Possess physical stamina to fulfill all work requirements during assigned working hours. Which could include standing or walking for long periods of time. Stooping, bending, reaching or lifting up to 25 lbs.
