Dear Parents (Guardians),
I would like to introduce myself to you as your child's English teacher. My name is Lauren White, and I recently graduated from Western Kentucky University. This is my first year at Taylor County High School as well as my first year teaching! I am excited to begin this journey with your child in my class.
In English 1/Honors English 1 I will be focusing on 5 specific units: Literary Elements & the Short Story, The Novel-Honor (To Kill a Mockingbird), Poetry—Beauty, Epic Poetry-Heroism (The Odyssey), and Drama-Fate (Romeo and Juliet). Throughout the year students will be reading and writing both fictional and nonfictional pieces, as well as working on sentence structure and grammar.
It is my goal to prepare your child for the future by providing them with the skills to become literate, competent members of a global society. I will strive to reach this goal by having a self-paced, blended classroom where students can work at their own pace as well as do supplementary activities in a whole-group setting and choose activities that comply best with their individual learning style. With each student being able to work at their own pace and use the iPads provided by the school, they should be able to thrive in this innovative learning environment.

I fully believe it takes the parent, the student, and the teacher to work together to ensure educational success for the student.
