Creative Beowulf Writing Assignment

There is a gap of at least fifty years in the tale of Beowulf. What might have happened during that span of time (or at the 50 year mark)? Your task is to add an adventure for our hero. The adventure must take place somewhere within or at the end of that fifty-year time frame, and because the battles increased in their level of difficulty for our hero, this one should be more difficult than the battle between Beowulf and Grendel’s mother, but less difficult than the battle with the dragon. Try to imitate the style by using at least one kenning*, three sentences that use alliteration*, values of the time*, and pagan/Christian references*.

Task: Write a creative adventure/battle for Beowulf.

Must be:

 During the 50 years he was king or near the end of that time

 A battle that was harder to win than fighting Grendel’s mother, but not as hard as the dragon

 Include 1 kenning, 3 sentences with alliteration, values of Anglo-Saxon period, pagan/Christian references
