Attendance:

Consequences of Non-Attendance (as stated in the student handbook): A student’s quarter grade will be lowered by the following percentage when unexcused absences occur:

- 5% for one unexcused absence.

- 10% for two unexcused absences.

- 20% for three or more unexcused absences.

- Grade reductions will be accounted for in determining the final quarter grade.

- Credit will not be granted for assignments missed due to unexcused absences.

Three unexcused tardies are considered an unexcused absence.

If you are absent: It is YOUR responsibility to get a copy of the notes and the assignment. If you need additional help with the material, I am available most days either before or after school. Please pre-arrange a day & time if you need assistance. Cougar Café is also open every day after school until 4:35. Absence from class does not provide an excuse to skip any of the material presented. It means you must work harder to catch up

Cell phones/ electronic devices (as stated in the student handbook)

Cell phones, music players, and other electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight during the entire school day because they are disruptive to the learning atmosphere. Violation of this guideline will result in the confiscation of the equipment by school personnel. The equipment may only be returned by an administrator after a conference with the student and his/her parent. Repeat violations will lead to ISS or OSS.

Expectations

Be prompt. You are expected to be in the classroom, ready to work, when the bell rings.

Try. Try. Try. Your job for 85 minutes each day is to make the best effort you can to learn the concepts

presented in class. Even if you don’t “want to”. Then, you are expected to practice outside

of class each day, too.

Be respectful. Students will be expected to respect other students’ property as well as their right to learn.

Be prepared. Students are expected to have textbook, notebook, pencil, and graphing calculator every day.

· Note: A TI-84+ (or 84+ silver edition – more memory) is recommended. The TI-84, or similar TI calculator, will be adequate for use in all high school mathematics courses and will be useful if the student chooses to continue their mathematics education after high school. At a bare minimum, you should have a TI-83 or TI-82.

· If you choose to buy a Casio graphing calculator, I will be very limited in what I can help you use. You will be expected to learn the functions on your own, as my experience is primarily with the TI calculators.

Follow school-wide rules. All rules in the student handbook will be enforced in this classroom.

We have read and reviewed the information and expectations for the Algebra 2 course taught by Mr. O’Connell.
