COLONIAL PROTEST POSTERS

If you were living in the British colonies during the 1700’s would you consider yourself British or American? What things inspired your decision? Would you fight if asked to?

Civil Disobedience: the refusal to obey certain laws or governmental demands for the purpose of influencing legislation or government policy, characterized by the employment of such nonviolent techniques as boycotting, picketing, and nonpayment of taxes.

Protesting and boycotting were and still are one of the chief ways to make change in America. Our Colonial ancestors used this to attempt to make change. “No Taxation without Representation” and “Taxation without Representation is Tyranny” were two of the most popular slogans used to aide their efforts.

Your ASSIGNMENT: Design a sign or banner that a colonial protestor or British Loyalist might have used at a protest rally. Use your notes and your Id’s from Chapter 2 section 1 as reference.
