Dream Bedroom Presentation Board

Part 1 The Plan

1.  Locate or re-create your current bedroom floor plan, furnishing arrangement, 1 wall elevation colored sketch, and traffic pattern overlay that we created from Unit 5.

2.  Create the floor plan for your dream bedroom using the ¼” graph paper or a room planner computer program.

This room is to include: room dimensions, furnishings, and appropriate blue print symbols indicating:

Windows / Doors / Closet space
All outlets, light switches, phone jacks, and cable locations / Light fixtures / Misc architectural symbols
Furnishings / Accessories / Extras

3.  Sketch and Color a 1 wall dream bedroom elevation plan

4.  Using the overlay and a colored pencil, diagram the possible traffic patterns throughout the dream bedroom.

Part 2 The Design

Decide how you will design the room and include the following interior samples:

a.  Floor treatments (wood, tile, carpet, and/or rugs)

b.  Wall covering samples (paint, wallpaper, wood… – wall, trim, ceiling)

c.  Textile/fabric samples displayed with dimension (mounted around a 2 ½” piece of cardboard/mat board or folded) .

i.  Window treatment samples (curtain, drapery. Valance…)

ii. Furniture covering and/or other fabrics in the room

d.  Picture samples are cut neatly and placed with a ¼” border around each picture.

i.  Picture of a piece of furniture

ii. Picture of an accessory

iii.  Picture of lighting

e.  Include a Legend or Key, placed with a ¼” border, that indicates the purpose for each sample with the correlating block lettering next to each sample piece.

Part 3 Putting it together

Plan out and Design your presentation board, BEFORE YOU GLUE IT TOGETHER, which needs to include:

a.  On the Front:

i.  A one inch border all around the board

ii. The room interior samples (think balance and space as you plan sample placement)

iii.  The legend or key

iv.  (OPTIONAL Back or Front) Dream room floor plan, furniture arrangement, with traffic pattern overlay.

b.  On the Back:

v. Your “Business Card” with your name, class hour, and design business name

vi.  Your current 1 wall elevation colored sketch.

vii.  Your dream bedroom 1 wall elevation colored sketch.

viii. Your current bedroom floor plan and furniture arrangement with traffic pattern overlays

ix.  (OPTIONAL Back or Front) Dream room floor plan, furniture arrangement, with traffic pattern overlay.

Part 4 The Report - An explanation for how the floor plan meets your needs – typed or professionally written in black ink.

1.  Include information for traffic flow, circulation, space, where you will spend most your time, storage, special considerations, likes, and your needs and wants that lead you to the room design choice.

2.  Explain how you incorporated each of the elements (space, shape, form, color, line, texture) and principles (rhythm, balance, emphasis, proportion and scale)

3.  Explain the use of variety and unity in creating a final harmonious design.

PART 5 Your Presentation Plan – How You Will Explain Your Board to the “Client” Class

1.  Your needs and considerations for the current bedroom floor plan compared to the dream floor plan

2.  Your samples and why you chose them.

3.  The before and after elevation plan.

4.  Discuss the use of elements(ie: lines) and principles (ie: focal point) and harmony found within your plan.
