Is it written in the stars? See how celestial movements influenced architecture at Stonehenge, the Pyramids of Giza and sites like Chaco Canyon. Check out the stars in your Zodiac sign and get inspired to explore the sky above.

POSSIBLE MOONPHASES REDESIGN
We're thinking about redesigning the Moonphases station so that it is setup similar to the Seasons Table. So far, folks think it's a great idea. If you have thoughts on t
his, let me know.
MARS ROVER STATION REDESIGN
We're going to build a new, clear-sided cart for the Mars Rover station. Due date is not known, stay tuned. This will allow us to display the Gale Crater Model and other items have them all be visible to the public.
NEW BOOK ABOUT WOMEN IN SPACEFLIGHT IN BAILEY LIBRARY
Just wanted to let you know about a new book available in the DMNS Bailey library titled, Women in Space: 23 Stories of First Flights, Scientific Missions, and Gravity-Breaking Adventures" by Karen Bush Gibson.
SEE THE ISS POSITION OVER THE EARTH IN REAL TIME
http://iss.astroviewer.net/ - shows current position of the International Space Station (ISS) and the view from the spacecraft, in real time. Once you open the website, be sure to click on SNAPSHOT to open a GOOGLE map of the same area in another window. You can zoom in to see the detail when they are over populated areas.Marta has put the link on the home page under the NASA Highlights section and on the ISS page under the Multimedia column. Thanks to Larry Stearns for passing this along.
CRATERING MACHINE STILL OFFLINE
The air valve on the machine responsible for firing the balls has broken. The new one is ordered but these are custom-made items so it may be a few weeks before it's working again.
NASA TV OFFLINE TILL APRILish
From about mid-February to mid-April, we'll have to use the laptops to stream NASA TV on any of the screens in the exhibit because the satellite dish on the roof has to be relocated for some work. Note that it's best to use "UStream" from the NASA TV site as it gives you the best picture quality.

astronomy insights with dr. kachun yu
by Dr. Ka Chun Yu, PhD Curator of Space Science DMNS
Click the links below to read Ka Chun's latest helpful articles on astronomical insights which are helpful at the Orbits Table as well as other stations in Space Odyssey. These columns are very interesting and helpful for teaching complex topics at the Orbits Table.
Here's a link to column #10:

Hear the story of how the universe began with the big bang. John Mather was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006 for his pioneering work with NASA's Cosmic Background Explorer satellite, which measured the spectrum of the heat radiation from the big bang and hunted for the first objects that formed after this great explosion. Mather is also one of the scientists leading plans for the James Webb Space Telescope, successor to the Hubble Space Telescope. Mather will discuss how the Cosmic Background Explorer satellite observations helped cement the big bang theory and how the James Webb Space Telescope will look even farther back in time to reveal details of the first stars and galaxies.
