Issues:

A. How can the Transportation Department get a copy of Tom’s survey to complete?

Mary will make sure there are copies of the survey at the Bus Garage that can completed. You can also go on-line to: s.net and on the left side click on the link Tell Tom Your Expectations.

B. Can a Paraeducator substitute in the District after they retire?

No they cannot. Effective September 2008, classified retirees can only be hired into a permanent part-time position working 3.5 hours/day or less.

C. When is the next update on chemical sweeps and can it be sent out to the District?

An e-mail was sent to all Administrators to send out to their employees letting them know the rules and dates of when this is going to happen.

D. Paraeducators would like to know if they can get paid year round?

We will not do that as a district, but it can be done through the credit union or wherever you bank. There is a formula that you can follow that will create summer checks for you. You will have to open a savings account at a financial institution in order to do that. The formula is posted on the web under classified council minutes 2010.

E. Do we not get a step raise anymore?

Yes you still get a step raise every year until you reach year 26. The salary schedule stops at step level 25.

E. Paraeducators are concerned that their positions will be eliminated due to budget constraints.

At this time the District is not making any cuts. However, the school’s site based could eliminate a position.

F. Paraeducator is concerned about standing outside doing car duty during a thunder storm and lighting.

They need to talk with their Principal about their concerns and procedures used during storms. Kelly Breeding gives out information on safety during these times.

G. If an employee attends a 6 hour training on a Saturday; does the employee get time and half?

It depends on how the week is worked. Classified employees week starts on Saturday and ends on Friday. Hourly employees that are required to work in excess of forty hours per week will be paid at the rate of 1 ½ times the regular rate for all hours beyond 40. However, any holidays, approved leaves, sick days, x-days, etc. are not included in calculating overtime pay.

H. Why are Paraeducators not paid more if they are working with Special Ed children?

There is only one salary schedule and job description for Paraeducators no matter what they do in their job.

I. What is the policy on Paraeducators supervising kids?

The policy is posted under the classified council minutes under 2009. s.net/human-resources/class-council/minutes

J. Why don’t Paraeducators get subs for release day?

Teachers are required to have so many hours of Professional Development and Paraeducators are not. Currently, Kindergarten and Special Education Paraeducators are the only paraeducators that receive subs for absences.

The next meeting is January 17, 2012.
