Clarke Learning Center
Admission Policy
An administrator or counselor must refer students currently in school from the student’s home district. Youth, grades 9-12, who are not enrolled in school may apply for admission to the Clarke Learning Center. Actual enrollment at the Clarke Learning Center must be approved by the student’s home district.
An enrollment limit will be established annually in May. Admission will be based on availability, the student’s previous educational history and background, and the student’s desire to complete the academic requirements for a high school diploma.
Criteria for enrollment:
· Interview by an administrator and/or Clarke Learning Center staff that will determine whether enrollment is appropriate and work to create a schedule to fit the student’s needs.
· Resident of the Clarke Community School or a school district that has agreed to fund students at the Clarke Learning Center.
· Referral from the student’s home district.
· Written application form and transcript on file.
· Agreement indicating compliance with the Clarke Learning Center’s policies.
· Desire to complete an education and to complete graduation requirements at the Clarke Learning Center.
· Completion of enrollment packet checklist.
· If a student has or is currently receiving special education services, a staffing will be held before admission.
When the enrollment limit is attained, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
Process for Acceptance

Language Arts 8 credits (5 broad English, 1 Literature, 1 Writing, 1 Speech)
Social Studies 6 credits (2 American History, 1 Global Studies/World History, 1 Government, 2 electives)
Mathematics 6 credits (2 Consumer Math OR 2 Personal Finance; 4 electives)
Science 6 credits
Health 2 credits (1 Personal Health, 1 Family Health)
Career Exploration 2 credits (1 credit in class; 1 credit COE/EBCE/Internship/Work Experience)
Physical Education 8 credits
Electives 5 credits
Senior Portfolio/Project
Clarke High School Diploma (53 Credits)
Language Arts 8 credits (2 English I, 2 English II, 2 English III, 1 English IV/Contemporary Literature/Journalism senior year starting with Class of 2014, 1 elective)
Social Studies 6 credits (2 U.S. History, 1 Government, 1 World History or Global Studies, 2 electives)
Mathematics 6 Credits (Consumer math will count as elective starting with Class of 2015)
Science 6 Credits (2 Physical Science, 2 Biology, 2 electives, up to 2 credits may be Animal Science I/II and/or Environmental Science)
Health 2 credits (1 Personal Health, 1 Family Health)
Intro to Word Processing (requirement through Class of 2015)
Physical Education 8 credits
Speech 1 credit
Advisory 1/8th credit per semester-Class of 2015 and beyond will receive 1 credit)
Advisory credit is not a graduation requirement
