Christmas Song Parody Project

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, a parody is “a piece of writing, music, etc., that imitates the style of someone or something else in an amusing way.” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/parody) You are familiar with “The 12 Days of Christmas.” Bob Rivers parodied that song with a song of his own called “The 12 Pains of Christmas.”

Weird Al Yankovic is a popular songwriter, famous for his parodies of well-known pop tunes. You may be familiar with Michael Jackson's song, “Beat It.” Weird Al Yankovic's parody of that song is called “Eat It.”

Your task, along with the members of your group (see below), is to write a parody of the Christmas song your group has been assigned and to submit a paper with information about the Christmas song.

Your group will hand in one type-written paper with the following information:

1.  Include lyrics to the traditional version of the song

2.  Write one or more paragraphs which include interesting facts about the song (who wrote it, when was it written, any other important facts)

(a)  Remember to cite the webpage(s) where you found your lyrics and facts

(b)  Cite at least one source; Wikipedia does not count.

3.  Include lyrics your group created as a parody to the original

(a)  Lyrics do not have to be Christmas-themed

(b)  Lyrics do have to be clean and non-violent

(c)  Write enough lyrics to last the duration of the music you have been given. Your song ends when the music ends.

4.  Include the names of all of the people in your group in the heading of your paper.

5.  Use the heading at the top of this sheet as your heading when your write the paper. Use December 2015 for your date.

In addition to handing in a type-written paper, your group will perform the parody. Miss Laurencot will provide the music. You might be video taped but it will be for grading purposes only. Videos will not be posted on any websites, including the school website.
