Chisholm Trail Antique Gun Association

Where: Chisholm Trail Antique Gun Association (CTAGA) Gun Range - CTAGA range is located Northeast of Wichita off of K-254 highway near Sedg/Butler Cty line. (map will be provided with confirmation letter)

When: Saturday, April 17, 2010 - Sign in 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.

What: Participant will compete in a junior (up to 14) or senior (15-18) age category. While the YHEC has a competitive side, the focus of the program is the personal challenge of improvement and the advancement of skills introduced in a basic course of hunter education. Challenge events will be:

· Shotgun course at clay birds. Twelve and twenty gauge guns, no adjustable cheek stocks or butt plates.

· Muzzle-loading course at life-size game targets at 20 to 70 yards. Muzzleloaders .50 will be provided, .45, .54 cal. are legal but participants must provide their own .45 or .54 balls and patches. In-lines with sabot bullets allowed, but not provided. No scopes.

· Light rifle (.22 caliber) course at life-size game targets at 15 to 60 yards. Equipment is limited to rifles designed for field use and hunting. Scopes are allowed but no greater than 4X. High velocity ammo will be provided.

· Archery course at 3-D game animals. Shots from 5 to 40 yards can be offered. Students can bring their own bows and arrows. Some equipment restrictions: bows with more than six sight pins, more than one stabilizer and stabilizers over twelve inches. (All compound bows will be shot at a further distance, recurve bows are provided if needed.) Compound bow shooters please bring your own arrows; our arrows are not strong enough for compound bows.

· Wildlife identification will test participant’s knowledge of Kansas wildlife in the form of animal mounts, hides, bird wings, tracks, horns/antlers, etc. No identification guides are allowed during the event.

· Safety trail will test participant on safe gun handling, game laws, and hunter ethics.

Who: Youth ages up to and including 18 years of age – All participants must have completed a basic state hunter education course. Hunter Education card is required. No prior experience needed, but must be able to shoulder and control the firearms.

Cost: $15.00 registration includes all ammunition (do not bring ammunition). All equipment/firearms to participate will be provided if needed. ***Pre-registration is required.*** Space is limited, so sign up early. We cannot accept more students than can safely be provided for. Your registration must be mailed by April 10th. We will be providing a light lunch for participants, volunteers and parents. Awards will be presented at the completion of the challenge.
