POSITION: Part-time Campus Police Officer, North Metro Campus

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, patrols assigned areas and ensures safety of campus buildings and grounds for the technical college. Manages traffic flow and enforces parking regulations. Investigates traffic incidents, vandalism, theft and violence. Performs administrative duties. May arrest perpetrators of crimes. This position requires P.O.S.T. certification, completion of yearly continuing education mandates, periodic firearm qualification and a valid driver's license.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· High School diploma or GED.

· Ability to differentiate between colors.

· Ability to work well with others.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Available to work varied schedule

· Valid driver’s license.

· P.O.S.T. certification as a Peace Officer

Preferred Qualifications: (In addition to the minimum qualifications)

· Previous working experience in law enforcement in a college or other school environment.

Job Description:
Under general supervision, patrols assigned areas and ensures safety of campus buildings and grounds for a technical college. Manages traffic flow and enforces parking regulations. Investigates traffic incidents, vandalism, theft and violence. Performs administrative duties. May arrest perpetrators of crimes. Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

1. Patrols an assigned area and checks campus buildings for unauthorized personnel during opening and after closing hours. (Performed by all incumbents)

1. Thoroughly checks buildings/grounds, locked doors or access areas and ensures the overall security of the facility during assigned shift. Corrects or reports any problems in accordance with policies and procedures and within established time frames.

2. Investigates petty thefts, traffic accidents, injuries on property and completes written reports in accordance with policies and procedures and within specified time frames.

3. Notifies supervisor of accidents and/or injuries at the time of the incident.

4. Maintains a working knowledge of fire alarm systems and escape routes.

5. Maintains visibility on the campus grounds, patrols residency hall and dining facilities to discourage theft, vandalism and violence.

2. Manages traffic flow and enforces parking regulations. Issues tickets to violators. (Performed by all incumbents)

1. Observes and stops motor vehicle operators to apprehend violators or suspected violators of motor vehicles and other laws, and improper safety standards according to established procedures.

2. Enforces parking regulations and issues tickets to violators on a fair and equal basis. Promptly forwards copy to cashier.

3. Directs traffic and courteously assists students and guests in locating open parking. Observes and reports unusual traffic patterns density and associated problems.

4. Issues verbal warnings in a clear, concise and professional manner.

1. Properly investigates traffic incidents, vandalism, theft, and acts of violence immediately upon notification.

2. Reports to supervisor the nature of the incident via telephone or by incident report within specified time frames.

3. Arranges for removal of abandoned vehicles from campus grounds.

4. Provides assistance to motorists of disabled vehicles; performs minor repairs, calls for assistance and provides transportation to garage or service station.

5. Operates radio equipment and follows standard procedures.

1. Completes activity reports on an established basis.

2. Evaluates contents for completeness, accountability, neatness and compliance with rules and regulations.

3. Properly maintains files and reports in a neat and orderly manner.

4. Attends meetings to obtain information and updates on policy.

5. Maintains P.O.S.T. certification.

1. Strictly adheres to certification guidelines of the agency and P.O.S.T.

2. Successfully completes mandatory in-service educational training required each year.

3. Fulfills firearms qualification as required.

6. Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior. (Performed by all incumbents)
