Chapter 9: Managerial Support Systems at Club IT
From an outsider’s perspective, Club IT seems very successful to you. The club is busy in the evenings, the people are eating and drinking and having fun, and the staff is very congenial and hard-working. On the financial side, though, Lisa and Reuben would like to see the business earn more profits and possibly open a second Club IT. After reading this chapter, you feel you have insights into some tools that can help them make these decisions.
1. Open the Excel file Ch09_ClubIT2.xls to perform some Goal-Seeking analysis. What do weekly Food & Beverage sales need to be in order to achieve annual net profit of $100,000? $200,000? You’ll need to use Excel’s Goal Seek tool, found on the Tools menu. Prepare a report for Lisa and Reuben on the results.
2. You were impressed with the results EMS obtained by installing digital dashboard software for their executives. Research some executive dashboard products, and identify information that Lisa and Ruben would likely find useful presented in a dashboard.
3. Seasoned restaurant managers and bar owners shudder at the term “shrinkage,” especially when used in conjunction with liquor sales. Though the staff at Club IT is indeed hard-working, Lisa and Reuben are aware of the temptations to just pour a little more for a friend from time to time. What are some solutions available to ClubIT to monitor and report on beverage sales and shrinkage. Do some research. Are they an application of expert systems technology?
