Caterpillar Delivers Power to Meet Myanmar’s Energy Needs

PEORIA, IL – Caterpillar, Inc. today announces a project enabling the country of Myanmar to meet significantly increasing power demand from its growing industrial and residential sectors.

On February 11 2014, the 52 megawatt (MW) Ywama Power Plant located in Insein Township, Yangon, Myanmar officially commenced operation providing electric power to the national electric grid. The US$46.5 Million power plant was delivered on a turnkey basis by Caterpillar Energy Solutions in collaboration with local Caterpillar dealer, Myan Shwe Pyi Tractors Limited (MSP CAT). Caterpillar delivered turnkey power plant supply, project management, and commissioning of a facility housing 13 x Cat® CG260-16 gas generator sets alongside complete electrical and mechanical balance of plant equipment. MSP CAT provided installation and civil construction services including transformers, cable, electrical substation, fuel train, lighting and fire prevention equipment. MSP CAT is also supplying a long-term operation and maintenance contract for the owner, UPP Power (Myanmar) Ltd. to ensure operational success. UPP Power (Myanmar) Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-listed UPP Holdings Ltd., is delivering electricity to the Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE) under a 30 year contract.
