Career Center Army JROTC Cadets
Log 336 Hours to Cleanup Grand River
JACKSON, Mich. – Fifty-seven Career Center JROTC student cadets turned out to make a difference for the Grand River Environmental Action Team (GREAT) cleanup on September 11 in downtown Jackson. The students logged their first 336 volunteer hours of the year working for the Jackson community.
Students waded through mud, water, and debris to clean and make an environmental impact in the Grand River. The weather was cold and wet, but it did not dampen the students’ spirits or stop them from having a good time.
“The cadets also volunteered at two events in Brooklyn on Friday and Sunday, both supporting the Wounded Warriors Project,” said SFC Tom Emond. “We are all pretty proud of our cadets’ enthusiasm and motivation since we had only been in school for three days before these events took place.”
The Career Center Army JROTC program has a record 139 students enrolled for this school year and a full calendar of volunteer opportunities awaiting the cadets. Over the last five years, the Career Center cadets have logged more than 16,000 community service hours. The program has a strong focus on leadership and a mission to motivate students to be better citizens.
