AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
SUMMER ASSIGNMENT
Welcome to AP Human Geography or fondly known as AP HUGS (Studies). Both of us wish to share our enthusiasm and fascination with the world as we lead you through to the May 2016 College Board Exam. The assignment is designed to have you ready for our first day of class on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. It contains three parts. All are due the first day of class. If you have any questions, contact: or
Part I: MDC & LDC Country Profiles.
· Each student will select 1 MDC country (more-developed) and 1 LDC country (less-developed) to research throughout the year-long course. For the summer assignment, you will select 1 MDC and 1 LDC country only from the list below. Before you select your MDC and LDC country, turn to this source and explore a variety of countries. Make your choice by accessing: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/index.html . Print out your 1 MDC and 1 LDC country’s profile. The print-out (print back to back) will be long, around 10 pages each country), but it will allow you to quickly access important data for your school-year assignments. Place this important information in your binder under the TAB Country Profiles in your AP HUGS binder as you complete Part II of this assignment. The info in this fact book includes geography, people, government, economy, energy, communication, etc.
· Over the summer, you will be expected to locate and read six news articles (3 per country) that demonstrate the importance of geography in relation to your two country’s current situation. While the number of potential topics is virtually limitless, here are some you may wish to search: Cultural Expression Internal Power Struggles Political Dissent Environmental Population Change Trade Agreements Urban Planning Economic Educational Advances Religious Observances Others Print-out Internet articles or cut out news/paper magazine articles; place in notebook.
