MEETING HELD AT

BLACKLEY CRICKET CLUB

WEDNESDAY 20th JUNE 2012

Chairman: John Cliff

Treasurer: Stephen Williams

Secretary: Julie Pearson

Apologies: Elland, Queensbury, Shelf, Todmorden

Minutes: The Minutes of the previous meeting were passed as a true record (Helen Hoyle, Peter Butterfield)

Matters Arising:

All clubs have now paid for their scorebooks and teabags.

Umpires’ coats – it has not been possible to obtain these any cheaper than in the local sports shops. There is a rule that junior umpires should wear white tops or an umpire’s coat. Need to clarify this with the junior managers’ meeting minutes.

Clubmark Update – Steve Archer

Massive issues with bureaucracy regarding re-accreditation of clubs – 5 clubs from Calderdale had their clubmark withdrawn, 4 have now been re-accredited.

Steve Archer has sent out an annual health check (as a PDF) to clubmark clubs which needs to be completed and submitted. He will send out again as a word document so that it can be completed and emailed.

If clubs are wishing to apply for funding if you are clubmarked you stand a much greater chance than if you are not. Some Local Authorities are giving less rate relief if a club is not clubmarked or working towards it.

John Cliff commented that when a club is clubmarked it makes them focus on where they want to be in 3/5 years time instead of working from day to day. It makes the club more structured and well administered.

Feedback on Club Survey by YCB – Steve Archer

YCB surveyed 4 or 5 leagues – Steve Archer reported that he was quite surprised that the results showed that although Calderdale had a 100% response, 22 clubs said they didn’t know anything about the CCDG and its regular meetings.

Chance to Shine update – Steve Archer

A third of all state schools are to have cricket in schools. There is £42m available for this and there has been a National programme running for 7 years, but you had to be a focus club to be able to take part. In September they decided that Cricket Development will now be in charge of running the Chance to Shine programme. You do not now need to be a focus club so it will become more accessible. First year is to be condensed to 8 months – 21 different clubs currently involved in West Yorkshire – in Calderdale there are 4 clubs, Blackley, Copley, Illingworth and Warley working with 28 schools altogether in Calderdale. Inter-cricket class against class matches and matches against other schools. It has been fantastic for the first year. The programme will be reviewed annually with each club – there is also now the opportunity for other clubs to become involved. If you wish to take part speak with Steve Archer. Ben Heritage is currently helping Blackley and Copley. There is some monitoring required some of which can be done online. The age groups are from 9s to 15s and it will entail working with 6 primary schools. There is also more interest in working with high schools on Chance to Compete, which will be a competition between High schools. Payment is £17 an hour for each coach - because some clubs had been abusing the funding for this, the payment has now been reduced to £300 per club. If your club already has plenty of juniors, it is an opportunity to help out other clubs with junior players by promoting them whilst coaching.

U9s schools links (Helen Hoyle)

Schools linking project – not had a great response but continue to work with the clubs who are interested. Asked clubs to decide between them which schools and age groups they wished to take where there was a clash. Helen asked clubs to contact Steve Archer if they needed any coaches. Barkisland, Booth, Northowram Fields, SBCI and Lightcliffe have tried to contact other clubs within their area. Some of the schools who entered the Drax U9s have received coaching. Going forward funding will only be supplied to schools which are entering school competitions. U9s and U11s some clubs are struggling to get players, resulting in some of them having to pull out of the league or miss some fixtures. There are a lot more children playing cricket now through this project.

HCL organising an U9s festival Sunday 19th August in the morning at Northowram Hedge Top – Helen will send out the information for this. Open to all clubs and you can enter as many teams as you wish.

Girls – South Halifax Girls, going really well, now have over 40 girls ranging from 8 to 15 year olds. Coaching is every Saturday morning at Copley. Pairs cricket 8 a-side – won one (Guildersome) tied one (Holme Valley) – some of the girls being picked up by West Yorkshire girls – it is all going really well at the moment. If any clubs have girls who would like to play in an all girls team please encourage them to attend the coaching on Saturday mornings. If they are members of a club there is no subscription, otherwise there is a charge, but open to all girls.

Thanks to Steve Archer they were invited to play at the interval of a Yorkshire game – took 2 teams and they really enjoyed it.

Steve Archer suggested that Chance to Shine could be used as a project for girls’ cricket to promote in schools.

Helen asked if anyone who is a level 2 coach would be interested in coaching the girls as at the moment it is the coaches from Copley who are doing this.

Coaching update – Dennis Verity

Winter programme level 1 and 2 has done really well – everyone has passed but some of them still need to complete the other courses and a CRB form.

Winter 2012/13 we want to look at developing the current coaches – start thinking about running some coach development workshops – 6 three hour courses for between level 2 and 3 with video analysis. Coaches who already have level 2 can go on any of the 6 courses and can have an assessment at the end of them so that they can become the chief club coach at their club. Suggested numbers are 12 minimum for each workshop. Once numbers of people interested has been determined a price can be worked out, probably similar to level 1 and 2. Dennis to send details to Julie for circulation.

Dennis would like to run these courses before running another level 1 and 2.

A couple of first aid courses have been run recently. Mick Scott will run another first aid in late summer, early autumn. Dennis to send details to Julie to circulate.

Junior wicket keeping course – Dennis to send details to Julie to circulate.

Dennis is to organise another coaches’ meeting, for each club to bring along a list of the current coaches at their club which their CWO should be able to supply.

AOB

30th June – Brighouse gala – Wellhome Park – want 2 level 2 coaches for an Asda Kwik-cricket competition – will be paid £80 each for 5 hours 12 noon to 5pm. Please let Steve know if you are interested.

There is to be a Big push on creating opportunities and pathways for disabled people to play cricket. Looking at some disability specific coaching – if anyone is interested let Steve know. Helen reported that she has done some coaching at Ravenscliffe and found it very rewarding.

Emergency grant aid is available from Yorkshire - £500 available if the club has been vandalised etc – if you need to claim do so straightaway – some clubs have been refused as it was 6/8 weeks before they applied.

Discretionary grant aid £250 towards developing, women, girls, disability or junior teams.

Cricket Asylum in Sowerby Bridge – Steve Archer met up with them last week – first impressions it is a commercial unit – has some good ideas to help with coaches association, schools etc.

Dave Normanton reported that Stones had gained funding from various places, listed below, and expressed his thanks to Steve Archer for all his information about funding.

Biffa – got funding

£2000 towards a new roller - England and Wales Cricket Board

Build Center will put £400 in an account and the club contributes £100.

Localgiving matched funding - was basically a farce – system crashed couldn’t get on – only £1800 available - feedback that the funding went very quickly – only got £30 so far. Completed a survey and have reported that it is a complete waste of time.

Meeting Closed: 9.35pm

Next Meeting: 19th September @ 8pm
