RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE

Jan 2006+ Transcription of French to English from analogue and digital media: medical interviews (drug trials), marketing and market research materials (automotive industry, business facilities), exhibition materials, website text, including adaptation to target market (localisation), & ad hoc and telephone interpreting.

In-house French to English translator, Translation Service coordinator (replacing Translation Service manager in her absence), ad hoc interpreter and on-call assistant for Emergency Centre. Responsibilities: Sourcing translators internally and externally, translation of company-wide documentation, including safety authority (Intergovernmental Committee), CTRL, railway technical, health & safety, environment, instruction/operating manuals, HR documentation, presentations, training materials, IT, press articles, marketing and general business correspondence. Production of documents in accordance with company’s house style.

August 1993-July 1995 APPOINTMENTS BI-LANGUAGE (agency), London Responsibilities: Language services to The Times (worked directly for the editor – Peter Stothard, News Desk, Obituaries), The Sunday Times (News Desk, Sunday Times Magazine, Book Review section), Renault, various banks, etc.

Short-term contract as Press Research Assistant (Bi-lingual – French/English)

Responsibilities: Library research for French colleagues and director of Corporate Communications, liaison with other media (especially French-speaking), preparation of media materials, organisation of press briefings and film crew access.

March 1990-February 1993 Freelance ad hoc interpreter/translator Clients included: Project Management International France s.a., Paris. Responsibilities: Translation of documents related to property development and site management. European Fine Wines Ltd (Import/Export), London. Responsibilities: Translation (wine marketing material) / interpreting, including liaison with châteaux and bonded warehouses. RPA (Europe) Limited, London. Responsibilities: Ad hoc interpreting at business meetings in France and Spain, project liaison in UK and abroad, press liaison (including writing of press releases), re-design, writing and production of marketing materials (DTP-assisted (AppleMac)), sourcing of technical authors, project co-ordination/report writing, market research (Europe). Responsibilities: Liaison with press, clients and the public; preparation of press releases and conferences; organisation of exhibitions in UK and abroad (including management of staff); re-design, co-editing, preparation and production of internal magazine and of exhibition and marketing materials (on AppleMac).

Aug '87-Sep '88 UK and France - private tutor: English and Spanish to adults and children and freelance translation of TV production material (Latin American documentary material, transcription from microcassette recorder (Olympus, Pearlcorder-type)) and financial services documentation.
