COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Guitar I class is designed for beginners that have never played the guitar or have a very limited knowledge of the instrument. Students will learn to play in the classical guitar style. Supplementary material in other musical styles will also be taught

COURSE EXIT STANDARDS:

Upon completion of this course students will:

1. Read music in the open position on all 6 strings (read in tab also)

2.  Play 15 different chords in 2/4, 3/4 4/4 time

3.  ADM (correct practicing techniques)

4.  Perform and sing song sheets (ensembles)

3. Major and minor scales in C,G,Am,Em

4.  Play rest stroke and free stroke (right hand)

5.  Arpeggios using 15 chords

6.  Notate music in one and two parts

7.  Perform music in various styles for an audience

8.  Play using different techniques (ex. Plectrum and Flamenco styles)

Week 1 / Correct right hand placement,
Position and posture (relaxation exercises)

Performance test / Learn new “fingered notes” F and G on string #1
