Brookland Baptist Church Scholarship Application

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND PARENTS

APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND EDUCATION ASSISTANCE AWARDS

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WHO PLAN TO ENROLL IN INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING IN THECURRENT ACADEMIC YEAR ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY BASED UPON DATA LISTED BELOW.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. Applicants must be members of the church in the last three (3) consecutive years at the time of application. Students, who are not members, but have "grown up” in Brookland Baptist Church within the last ten (10) consecutive years,” are also eligible to apply.

2. Applicants must submit all required documentation: application, typed essay, official copy of high school transcript, official copy of SAT or ACT score, and forms verifying participation in church, high school and community organizations.

3. Applicants must be high school graduates in the current academic year.

4. Applicants must place all completed application materials in a sealed envelope. Then place the sealed envelope in the Scholarship Applications box located in the lobby of the administration building no later than Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

Criteria for selection include:

1. Scholastic ability: Submit official copies of SAT or ACT scores and high school transcripts with your application.

2. Consistent participation in church activities/auxiliaries: Submit a maximum of five (5) completed and properly signed verification forms detailing your involvement in church activities. See Attachment A.

3. Involvement in school activities: Submit a maximum of five (5) completed and properly signed verification forms detailing your involvement in school activities. See Attachment B.

4. Involvement in community organizations: Submit a maximum of five (5) completed and properly signed verification forms detailing your involvement in community organizations. See Attachment C.

5. Typed essay: The essay must be double spaced on a single (1) sheet of paper and it should incorporate the roles of education and church in your life. The essay must demonstrate clarity, coherence, proper usage, mechanics, adherence to the theme, and enough details to develop the concept.

AWARDS PRESENTED: Sunday, April 23, 2017 (Both Worship Services, Main Campus)

THE ESSAY

Please type a well-organized essay on the theme, “How the Church Worship Experience and Support Ministries Have Impacted My Life.” Applicants should cite personal examples of their participation in church sponsored events, academic and Christian education programs, auxiliaries, ministries, etc. to develop the theme. Essays will be evaluated according to these categories: usage and mechanics, clarity and coherence, adherence to theme, and inclusion of adequate details.

THE ESSAY MUST BE TYPEWRITTEN IN A 12 POINT FONT AND DOUBLE-SPACED ON A SINGLE (1 page only) FULL PAGE in essay format style. Margins must be 1-inch on all sides (top, bottom and sides).
