Greenville, S.C. – Brevard Music Center and the Peace Center present Keith Lockhart and a full symphony orchestra from the Brevard Music Center on Sunday, June 28, at 3 p.m. as a musical gift to the upstate community. The orchestra will be joined by cellist Cicely Parnas.

The program will include Dvořák’s In Nature’s Realm, Khachaturian’s Cello Concerto, Kodály’s Dances of Galanta and Janáček’s Sinfonietta.

Keith Lockhart is an alumnus of the Brevard Music Center and serves as its artistic director and principal conductor. He has conducted nearly every major orchestra in North America, as well as several other prominent orchestras around the world. As conductor of the Boston Pops for 20 years, Lockhart has led more than 1,600 concerts and made 76 television shows. In 2010, Lockhart was appointed principal conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Rising American cellist Cicely Parnas is recognized for bringing “velvety sound, articulate passagework and keen imagination” to her performances (The New York Times). She was named an inaugural Young Artist in Residence on NPR’s Performance Today in 2011, won the 2012 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and holds the Anne and George Popkin Cello Chair of Young Concert Artists. She was the recipient of the Mortimer Levitt Career Development Award for Women Artists in 2012.

ABOUT THE BREVARD MUSIC CENTER

The Brevard Music Center has matured into one of this country's premier summer training programs and festivals. More than 400 gifted students, ages 14 through post-college, come to the Music Center to study with members of a distinguished artist faculty and with renowned guest artists. For seven weeks, students participate in a vigorous program of instruction that includes ensembles, private lessons, and chamber music.

Brevard's hallmark is the powerful sense of community that re-emerges every June, as faculty and students work together to present more than 80 concerts to the public. The total audience each summer numbers more than 30,000.

ABOUT THE PEACE CENTER

The not-for-profit Peace Center is located on a six-acre site along the Reedy River in downtown Greenville.
