Bishop Amat – New Synthetic Track Underway

LA PUENTE, CA, June, 2014 – For all too long Bishop Amat High School athletes have had to make do with a decrepit decomposed granite track that was installed when Kiefer Stadium was built many decades ago. If it rained the track became a muddy mess. If the sun shone every puff of wind produced a mini dust storm.

In November the school invited Mr. Dan O’Melveny, Executive Director of the Shea Foundation, to visit our campus and view our outdated track. Shaking his head in disbelief, he agreed that our athletes deserved a much better facility. He readily accepted our request to petition the Shea Foundation for financial aid in constructing a new state of the art synthetic track in the stadium.

Within a matter of weeks, we received the welcome news that the Foundation had decided to contribute up to $300,000.00 of the estimated $750,000.00 cost of the project. Mr. John Shea stipulated, however, that his contribution was contingent upon the willingness of the Bishop Amat Family to raise a matching sum of $300,000.00.

All that will change this summer. The construction began immediately following the completion of the 2013-214 school years and will continue into the coming summer months. The new track is a wonderful opportunity for Bishop Amat to improve the athletic facilities for present and future students.
