Benefiting: Numerous recipients throughout Washington Township

This year marks the 22nd Anniversary of Washington Township’s Super Bowl Hoagie Sale. Twenty-two years ago several students in Washington Twp. had a vision to create a fundraiser that would have within its’ structure, several key ingredients. They wanted to be able to raise money for a local worthy cause, have it reach out to the entire community, and incorporate real, meaningful community service for students. What has developed from that has become one of the signature events in all of Washington Township: The Helping Hands Super Bowl Hoagie Sale.

Now, thousands of hoagies and student volunteers later, we have surpassed the $500,000 dollar mark in funds raised via this one project. It couldn’t have happened without the support and spirit of the Washington Twp. Community.

Unfortunately, once again we have a number of families who are facing serious medical situations. As a result, it is impossible to tell each individual story. We can only say that while the amount of money raised from this great community service project does not settle all of the financial concerns of each family, but the funds do go a long way in helping offset expenses that are not covered by insurance. In some cases, moms have had to quit their jobs to stay home and take care of sick children or there might be certain medical procedures that are not covered by insurance. More importantly, the support of an entire community rallying behind a cause like this gives renewed hope and spirit to the families involved. Likewise, our students and residents are enriched by the lessons taught, not only be the former and present recipients, but by the act of being part of something bigger than themselves.

We have over 300 student and adult volunteers ready to arrive at 6:00 A.M. on Super Bowl Sunday in order to make the two-foot party hoagies. This is one of the most ambitious and meaningful community service projects in the State of New Jersey and now an integral part of Washington Township. We cannot do this without your support!
